Additional Lesson Plans for 2008 -
Scottish Council for Single Homeless have produced a new set of free lesson plans aimed at challenging students’ attitudes and knowledge of homelessness. The three lesson plans, available to download for free from www.leavinghome.info/im_offski.html, allow students to compare their attitudes about homelessness to those of the Scottish general public, gain a better understanding of the myths and realities surrounding homelessness and decide on what laws they would make to help improve the situation for homeless people in
My Space My Place - A Tenancy Sustainment Resource for Young People - SCSH’s innovative guide for young tenants – won a prestigious UK Housing Award for Outstanding achievement in social housing in Scotland in November 2006. Stay or Go? Young people living at home and leaving
home: a guide for parents - Following on from the Carers Guide, SCSH have developed a new guide to support all parents when their children leave home. ‘Stay or go?’ is a guide for parents to help them talk with young people about what is involved in leaving home. The guide provides up to date practical information about housing options, legal rights and sources of advice and support.

I’m Offski! Lesson Plans and activities for young people exploring the issues of leaving home and housing. These are available from the www.leavinghome.info website. The project also works with local authorities to develop localised lesson plans, reflecting the issues, agencies, and housing options for a particular area. www.leavinghome.info is an on-line version of the Streets Ahead guide and the I’m Offski! lesson plans. Also included are news stories and information sharing sections as well as links to other housing education material.
This event is for everyone working in homelessness prevention and education including teachers, education officers and those working with vulnerable young people.

Training: We offer training to support Streets Ahead, My Space My Place and our I’m Offski! lesson plans and activities. As well as regularly running open training sessions across Scotland, we can be commissioned to run sessions specifically tailored to our clients’ needs. Contact the Youth Unit for more information, 0131 226 4382.
Consultation and Support to Local Authorities: We provide advice and support to local authorities in developing housing education and/or housing advice and information.
Development of Local Directories: A number of local authorities have developed supplements to the Streets Ahead guide that list and describe services in their area. Our assistance can range from consultation to the full production of a local directory.
Development of Local Lesson Plans: Local lesson plans have far more impact than national/generic plans. Young people find plans that refer to local housing options and local agencies much more relevant. We provide support and advice, and, where appropriate, full production, of localised lesson plans for local authorities. We also support our lesson plans with training.
Consulting With Young People: We have an ongoing programme of consulting young people in the development of all our resources and services. A key factor in the success of the Streets Ahead and My Space My Place guides is extensive consultation with young people during their development. We are committed to this approach in the development of all new resources.
Listening to Workers: We maintain regular contact with those working with young people and their housing issues across the whole of Scotland. This contact helps us improve our resources and services. It also puts us in an excellent position to learn about and disseminate best practice.
