SCSH welcomes homelessness cash boost

Scottish Council for Single Homeless (SCSH) today welcomed the announcement of £27 million over three years to enable Local Authorities to develop effective strategies to tackle homelessness.

Speaking after the announcement by Jackie Baillie SCSH Director, Robert Aldridge , stated:

"We welcome this additional cash which puts Local Authorities at the forefront of the fight against homelessness. The emphasis on prevention of homelessness is particularly welcome – SCSH has long argued that prevention is clearly the most effective method of combating homelessness. For those who do become homeless, the new package of rights is a significant step forward.

However, we are concerned that temporary accommodation must be of an acceptable standard and lead to a permanent home. There is no sense at all in creating a revolving door where certain homeless people go for help, are given temporary accommodation, lose it, and end up back at the beginning. We trust this is where the emphasis on prevention will manifest itself."
